History: Oscar was first commissioned in 1981 by shipping company W*** from Kong & Halvorsen. Founded by Mr Kong Hon Sing, the former General Manager of the American Marine Company, of Grand Banks fame, and Harvey Halvorsen, heir to the famous Australian shipbuilding dynasty, Kong & Halvorsen picked up where Grand Banks had left off, building world-class trawler type leisure yachts in Hong Kong, mainly for export to the North American market. While Oscar’s GRP hull was laid in Shekou, on the mainland, all the woodwork and fittings were added in the firm’s Junk Bay shipyard. With her Burma teak finishes, tasteful design and top quality scantlings, Oscar was meant to impress. After nearly forty years of faithful service entertaining senior company executives and VIP clients on Hong Kong waters, Oscar was acquired by Taipan Charters in December 2020.
Accommodation: Oscar boasts a master cabin with two single berths and an en suite bathroom with bath tub, a guest cabin with bunk beds, a guest head with shower, a well-equipped galley and a comfortable saloon. The well-protected aft terrace is large enough to accomodate 12 guests in the shade. The interiors are all original and pleasantly old-fashioned. The shaded flybridge can accomodate up to six guests.
Equipment: Designed with an emphasis on comfort, she is fitted with a generously-sized generator (ONAN 16 kW), to keep all the ship’s utilities running: air conditionning, hot water maker and refrigerator. Fishing rods and tackle are always on hand, to take advantage of trolling opportunities.
